The Compassion Experience

The Compassion Experience is a project of Compassion International.
For over 60 years, Compassion International has been making a difference in the lives of children growing up in some of the most impoverished paces on earth. Though the statistics on poverty have greatly improved over the past 25 years, the reality is that there are still 385 million children living in extreme poverty (defined as less than $1.90/day by World Bank, 2013). This type of poverty stands in direct opposition to children growing up healthy, educated and with every opportunity to achieve their God-given potential.
In order to advocate for the most vulnerable children, the Compassion Experience was created to share some of their realities. The Experience gives visitors a chance to see life for some children from a different perspective. It’s our hope that this perspective provides a continued awareness to both this type of poverty and the opportunity we all share to make a tangible difference for kids still stuck in the cycle of poverty.

Visitors will be given headsets and invited on an audio-guided journey through wheelchair-accessible and kid-friendly exhibit space, featuring replicas of the homes and environments of real children who have grown up under the weight of extreme poverty. Visitors will journey with the children from poverty to hope and will experience new countries and cultures along the way. Guests will hear the child’s life story through headphones, as told by professional voice actors in an immersive experience. The stories featured are all true and told with permission and direction from the Compassion-sponsored children who lived them.
Compassion’s core strategy for combating child poverty is one-to-one sponsorship. Sponsors are individually connected with a child who will get to know them personally through exchanged letters. A $38-per-month contribution provides life-changing opportunities including:

  • consistent, nutrient-rich meals
  • preventative medical care and check-ups
  • school fees, uniforms, books, and whatever the child needs to attend or stay in school
  • Bible teaching
  • professional counseling and mentoring by safe adults
  • tutoring and vocational training

At the end of your tour through The Compassion Experience, you will have an opportunity to sponsor a child. It’s an invitation to enter the life of a child and invest directly into their future. Rooted in our Christian faith, we operate exclusively in partnership with the local church and you can trust our financial integrity. Your support of and relationship with that child matters for eternity.
Your interest in learning more about poverty and hope in the developing world is so encouraging. We are determined to never raise a white flag to the terror of poverty. We believe that every child is worth every effort to live a life released from poverty. We hope you share that passion and can join us November 15 - 18, 2019

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations

Matthew 28:19

Here at Liberty, we say "sending" for much of our Great Commission work because we believe every disciple of Jesus is sent — in York County, into the nation, and around the world.

We believe that the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18–20) is not the “Great Option,” but a command to all of his people to be engaged in the beautiful mission of our Lord Jesus: to make disciples of all nations.
This drives our vision.
Because God has called all Christians to be an active part of his mission, we want to equip disciple-making disciples here at Liberty and around the world.

Local Missions

Every member at Liberty has the opportunity to participate in the work the Lord is doing in York County.

First and foremost, every Christian can pray. Pray for the poor and marginalized and pray that we would love our neighbors totally.

Second, every Christian can serve.

Either by volunteering to help in one of the ministries of Liberty, becoming a deacon, or as part of Liberty C.A.R.E.S.
We strive to demonstrate by our actions the heart of Jesus found in Matthew 25:35-40.

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

We partner with like-minded organizations within our community which bring training, infrastructure, and strategy while the church brings community, relationships, and the gospel. We focus on shared values and objectives, recognizing that as our people engage with their communities, they are bringing Jesus into the mix. Serving is often an effective way to demonstrate the transforming power of the gospel.

The Church's Task

God is making a great name for himself among the nations, and he has called all Christians to be an active part of his mission. At Liberty, our goal is to see as many people come to know Christ as we can. It is our firm belief that every member of the church can be a part of this task.

Expanded Missions

Every Member Has a Role

Every member at Liberty has the opportunity to participate in the work the Lord is doing in the nation and overseas.

First and foremost, every Christian can pray. Pray for the lost who have never heard the gospel and pray for the missionaries who God has called to take the gospel to these distant places.

Second, every Christian can give. Every time you give to the church, a portion of your gift goes to see the gospel advanced to the nations.

Finally, you can go. Go to the mission field yourself, either on a short-term trip or as a long-term missionary.
How is God calling you to serve -  locally, nationally, or worldwide? Can we help you find your place in the body of Christ?
